A worm hole is a kind of "passage" created by the gravitation of two black holes when they are positioned at the appropriate distance from each other. Theoretically this "passage" could offer suspension of the obstacles such as time that would normally prohibit travel through space to a space location that would be impossible for travel under "normal" conditions. Some scientists have theorized that travel to another universe or dimension or even to distant stars might be possible through a worm hole. However, the problem with this concept, according to Kip Thorne, would be keeping the worm hole open long enough for the travel because worm holes are not static. It seems that worm holes are rather ephemeral and don't last that long. Some have theorized that only a special kind of matter would allow time travelers to traverse that worm hole before it closes. Kip Thorne calls this matter, "exotic matter," which is probably a form of antimatter. Because the mechanics of time and space travel through worm holes offer obviously daunting obstacles, it's not likely that a worm hole will soon be a portal to another universe. But who knows what could happen if humans manage to survive and get smart enough to figure out how to use antimatter to keep that worm hole open long enough? :-)

By the way, if you would like to read a great sci-fi story based on this idea, look for Carl Sagan's book _Contact_. It's also available in movie form, starring Jodie Foster; but as usual, in my opinion, the book is better than the movie. Also, if we humans want to get smart enough to engage in travel to the stars, we need to read more and watch fewer movies, in my opinion. :-) I think _Contact_ is the only fiction book written by Carl Sagan, and although he was an eminent astronomer himself, I understand that he asked Kip Thorne for feedback on the validity of his use of worm hole science in the book. He wanted to be sure that the fiction book was based on accurate science when he constructed a plot which has his heroine scientist traveling to one of the brightest stars in our sky, Vega, an impossible feat given current human knowledge.

think of space as a sheet the planet and stars sitting on that sheet. to make a worm hold all you need is enough mass and energy to rip a hole in the sheet and you could take a short cut through the time space continume. thats how the aliens do it.

Think of it like a tunnel that connects from one side of space to the other. Scientist are currently trying to build one however when they do build one it will take a massive amount of energy just to keep one opened.

It's only a supposed model of a Black Hole, with
an "other end" in 'real space/time`.
Never demonstrated or observed.
Highly unlikely that any exist.
