Most fish mix well with other fish, as long as they all need the same pH of water. If you are really concerned, try to find fish that come from the same general area as the others. One more tip, if a fish you have is big, and you have other (smaller fish), don't mix them!!! The easiest way to decide what fish to get is to go to a pet store, it is best to go to a mainly fish store. Find a few fish that would work and look them up, or simply ask the store employees. If you still lack information then google the breed. Then make the necessary adjustments to your tank. For example, some fish do not do well with plants. Another thing to keep in mind is that if you want to get more than one school of fish, make sure that one breed prefers the top of the tank and the other likes the bottom. Good luck with your fish, and have fun.

white cloud minnows, these are often more common than goldfish, i actually prfer them t goldfish( also i hate goldish ;-) ) or american flag fish( not as common but are a great add to a cold water aquaria, any small fish will go fine with goldfish, but can be seen as food as many goldfish reach a foot and a half in length, this happened to me in my early fishkeeping years, now i am keeping exotic fish, i dont reccomend tropical fish untill you have mastered coldwater 100% this may take a year or 2, just keep goldfish then try white clouds, flag fish, then you can try and care for loachs, cory catfish and sucking plecos. good luck

Well, when I needed to know a bit more about goldfish I went to the library and was a book about goldfishes and there are quite a few types of goldfish... So when you go to a pet shop, they will certainly have fishes there. So just ask them!;-)

I say the butterfly loach, weather loach, or white cloud minnows are perfect tankmates for goldfish because the can live in the same temperature range and they are all peaceful.

I don't think any fish really mix well with goldfish due to the high amount of ammonia they produce, as well as their tendency to nip fins.
