Participants in research studies have the right to know that they are participating in a study, and they have the right to know something about the demands of the study.

Deception can still be used in psychological research, but there must be very good reasons to use deception. For example, in many social psychology experiments if the participants knew exactly what the study consisted of, it would affect how they react and the data would therefore be misleading.
