...................13 1 = 5x1 - 2x13 = -21

.....................-3 13 = 1x13 - 5(-3) = 13 + 15 = 28

x = -21/7 = -3 and y = 28/7 = 4

-3x + y = 13 multiply both sides of this to give
-6x + 2y =26

subtract the first one from the second one, to give
-7x =21
divide both sides by -7 and you get
x = -3
