First wave boomer are 60 - but technically the boomers ae those born from 1944 - 1960. (Had to rearch it for a paper a few years back).

Hello,
It is OK for me. Actually I have always kept in tune with things and I have friends from 18 - 80. I have to say what the rock star, Sting said a few years back that I am more younger and energetic than my parents were at my age. Maybe it is the food or vitamins but comparing pictures many of us look younger than our parents did at the same age; mind you we didn't have the hardship of the depression or WWII etc.
What annoyed me was just how fast the time flew from 25 - 50. It seemed to go 10x as fast as my first 25 years which seemed a lifetime at that! Sigh, I cannot say however that I was not warned this would happen.

People are living longer than they used to, so I think that middle age is actually older than 40 now. I am 56, and I am not offended by it. Why should I be?I have no choice about growing old, so I just try to make the best of it.It is actually a great time in my life. I am looking forward to retiring and have a booth at an antique mall to downsize all the things it took me a lifetime to collect. My only concern at this time is staying healthy. I already have aches and pains, but I exercise and eat right.Who knows...maybe 56 is the new middle age. LOL

I have to agree with all the previous posts. I am 43 years young and loving it.
Remember We all have to grow old but we all don't have to grow up!!!
And I think that our parents had so many more burdens to live through. Our lives are more complicated with technology but our generation has learned from the past and we eat healthier and exercise more and have accepted growing older and have accepted the benefits that come with growing older.
I also agree that the new middle age is more like 50. We have more and more people living until they are 90- 100. So who knows what the age will be by the time that we get that old. I plan on living a full life until I die. I don't plan on not working and contributing to the world.
It ain't over 'till the fat lady sings.
And I ain't close to singing yet~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I'd say that since the average length of time of life is now like 76 - 80... then middle aged should be 38 - 40...
I don't think there is any negative conotation to it that isn't also befalled by the youth by being called young.

I'm proud to say that I am 49 years YOUNG and a proud grandma to two babies who are the loves of my life!!! I don't even think about it being labeled middle aged. It is different anymore. I look younger than my mom did at this age ...... and I'll probably work until the day I die too. I don't think about the label.
(You have this listed under the "gay" category though)......just an FYI.

I'm in that last group of "Boomers", and I'm glad I was born in 1961. I would have hated knowing that I missed out on all the fun of the '70's. Then came Reagan and the party was OVER! People born much after me have no idea what they missed!

Baby boomers are closer to 60. Our kids are closer to 40 than we are. I enjoyed middle age very much when I was middle age.

I'm fine with it.....especially when you think of the alternative..LOL.
I know I'm in much better health mentally and physically then any generation has ever been at this age.
We've planned financially for this time in our lives and that makes it a positive time.
I'm looking forward to retirement....and hopefully a grandchild or two or three...LOL
It annoys me when younger people dismiss us because they think we have nothing to offer.

I'm kinda' diggin' being in the 40+ crowd. My children have grown, I pretty much have a handle on all the things required of living as an adult, and I have plenty of free time to do the things I enjoy in life.
Grandchildren are pretty cool too, you can love them and spoil them and then send them home !!!

As a front line boomer (1949) and former hippy.....it beats the alternative.
