Lately it feels like there's mucus blocking my throat. Like a bubble of mucus (i know it's gross) and when I swallow it goes away and then comes back. I can drink something and it goes away for a minute or so but then it comes back. What is it and what can I do?

Here's one scenario: Sometimes you can get a mucus plug that originates out of one of the sinuses. It "oozes" down the back of the throat, but still has an anchor point in the sinus holding it in the throat by a thread of mucus. Therefore when you swallow, it starts to got down the throat, but the thread holding it to the anchor point pulls it back up like a rubber band.

Try taking a few hits on an Afrin nasal spray (or similar product), waiting a few minutes then either blowing your nose hard a few times or snorting in a few times to see if the sinus has opened up enough to release the anchor plug.

If that doesn't work...it's something else.

It might be where there is mucus trapped in the throat and your body is trying to get rid of it.

Try coughing a bit and see if that does anything.

This could be a nervous condition that you recently picked up. See your doctor and see if he can find out anything. Usually he can give you a mild nerve pill that will ease the feeling. The only other thing would be a tear from a bone (chicken) but, you would have noticed that.

it could be mucus from a cold. Don't eat/drink milk, ice cream, or other dairy products because they will increase the amount of mucus.

if you're not sick, it could be post-naval drip and you can get medicine for that i think.

whatever it is, it's not serious so don't worry, but it can be annoying. So good luck getting rid of it! :]

Prob. post nasal drip. Everyone has this, but it's usually not detectable. Did you just get over a cold, or do you think you're getting one? I think a decongestant might help, but I'm not sure.

It's kind of just like a cold symptom. It'll go away eventually.

Clear your throat and keep spitting it out... spit it into a rag so you can see what color it is.
