Get the leak fixed first, get a dry wall person to fix the crack in the ceiling and get a plaster kit to fix up the ceiling yourself. It is fun to "customize" your own surroundings. Have fun with it after the problem is resolved. They sell plaster kits at Lowe's or Home Depot, maybe WalMart.

Textured ceiling plaster, stick up ceiling tiles that can be painted. The stick ups are much easier. If the leak happens again after you plaster, the plaster will crack and come off. If you're sure the leak is gone for good, the plaster really isn't that hard to do. It's just time consuming. Any local hardware store carrys it. Go to the paint department and explain you want ceiling plaster and the tools to use it. If you want to do more than just fix it, you can also do textured patterns. It comes in various textures, from smooth to super rough (popcorn). Here's a link to give you some ideas on how it's done.

Here's a video to give you an idea on how to fix the crack..the video is a bit more in depth on how to simply plaster a ceiling.

Contact a professional painter...most either do drywall, or employ people who do drywall...once they do the drywall ceiling, it will look BEAUTIFUL! I had to have mine done after a flood situation...and the lights now dance off the ceiling and looks so nice. Definitely go with drywall and not plaster

Sounds like you need a roofer or a plumber first.
Fix the water leak first, then repair the ceiling. A good handyman company can help you with that.

Look in the yellow pages under construction or drywall. I advise getting credentials, bonded and insured company, get a bid on the work, pay by check/cc. and don't pay all the cost up front.

You will have to replace the dry wall and perhaps more...I would suggest calling a large painting company and asking them if they can fix water damage.
Good luck..it is a pain.

What's the big deal? Just phone a few plasterers and get quotes from them.
