The HMS Dreadnought set a new standard for battleship construction. In fact it was the first ship that could be considered a modern battleship. At the time it was built it was the most powerful warship in the world. By the time World War One was underway, both the British and German navies had whole fleets of ships inspired by the Dreadnought. And, just in case you didn't know, Dreadnought means "fear nothing".
