Do you use a usb hub? If so, the hub could be knackered, and needs replacing (happened to me a while ago).

Unplug your hub, and try plugging a device straight in to the socket on your computer to test it.

hi mate
u.s.b devices were originally designed to take the strain out of connecting masses of peripherals to your p.c
however with good intentions come problems, usb devoce not recognized is a common message on our p.c screens and this can be for many reasons
certain applications can affect some usb devices for example if you install a i.s.p broadband installation disk it may deem your routers usb port useless
and sometimes if you just pull out a memory stick for instance without "safely removing hardware" can mess up the usb configuration in the registry
basically the brunt of it is usb devices have never been a perfect science and they are notourisly difficult to diagnose
with every usb error comes a error code(code 10,code 37) and these codes will have a specific solution, the full list of error codes can be found at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310123
some useful methods include, uninstalling the device in device manager and restarting the p.c,windows will occasionally re reognize the device and reinstall the appropriate drivers
or go to the specific website for the device in question and there may be a help file or formware to fix the problem
hope this helps
good luck mate !
