You could start of with a general introduction and talk briefly about how what we eat and how it is produced has become a huge concern in recent years with the problems of obesity etc. Then say your essay is going to focus on one particular concern, which is chemicals in food. Then you could talk about when, what and why chemicals have started to be added to our food such as food colouring and various e numbers. These were considered safe, but things like Tartrazine have been found to cause hyper-activity. Many food additives have now ben banned or modified (colouring in Smarties)
The problem is the long term effects, and how they can affect us right down to genetic level. Chemicals have been tested and declared safe, but not in trials that last decades.
The long term future effects could be drastic, but we just don't know. It's a ticking bomb kind of thing.People have got used to cheaper food because of chemicals in the food business aid production - would people be prepared to pay more for cleaner food?
I hope that is in someway helpful.

I think the 1st thing I'd say is "of course I'm concerned about chemicals in my food".Who wants to eat something with a lot of chemicals in it? As always you can research it on the net. I do almost all my stuff that way...but don't use the 1st thing you find...don't be lazy and really research it. You'll be surprised at the info you can find that noone else will have. Don't just go to the first page of links...follow them untill you're satistied with what you've found. Good Luck.

Intro para: Talk about the big craze over trans fats a few yrs ago and how now all those food snacks are being advertised "NO Trans Fats!" And how it should be the same with chemicals in food. List fast food places that put chemicals in their chicken and fries (all, basically), especially McDonalds. Also snacks like Triscuits probably do it too. You'd have to research that one. Say this is why Americans are overweight, our kids included, and if we wanna see a decline in our weight, we have to change what goes into foods.

Should we be concerned about chemicals in our food? That is a good question. Scientists say that there are numerous cancer ricks if you eat foods that contian dioxin and other polychlorobiphenyls. SOme food that were tested for these two chemicals are catfish, lobster, cheese, butter, and icecream. They all had exceptionally high contents of these two posionous chemicals. The chemicals listed above are two of hundreds.
This is how i would start that. Hope this helps!

google "chemicals in food" and read what comes up. There will be plenty of different opinions. Pick a side and say, "I think we should/should not be concerned because..." Then proceed to say all your points. Stretch them out, put why, quote people that you got the ideas from, or paraphrase. Reiterate your main point at the end. Cite all these websites.

write about how chemicals can increase shelf time and how these can harm humans. then flip to the other side and say how chemicals in food play a key role in feeding the world. they help feed the world because if we all ate organic food thats all farmers would make and people is asia would starve from a lack of food. and then mention malthuses population theories

Why not start your essay with a quote from a professer or proffesional on the subject? Think of it as someone else coming up with your opening line.
Also, avoid openers like "I think *blank* because....". It is not proffesional, and it sounds like a little kid wrote it. I am not saying my idea is the best, but try to find something that will grab the readers attention.
Oh yeah, use Good Search, not Google, because everytime you search, Good Search will give money to the charity of your choice.

you could talk about how most of the items people enjoy now a days are chemically treated to taste better because of how today's society is becoming more dependent on vitamins being pumped into our foods because of our needs for synthetic junk food is increasing. Doritos, Candy's, microwavable dinners....you can get the picture here.
