I have a Compaq and since last night, the charger only works from an angle. so that means i have to hold it at that angle for it to charge. I have tried taping it down, glueing it (i know, pathetic), and nothing has worked. I dont want to tell my dad because he will get EXTREMELY mad for ruining my computer. I got this laptop last year for christmas. Right now it is staying at that angle and im getting lucky. I hope this doesnt mean i have to buy a new charger.

Help??

i see this problem a lot. this is caused by the pin breaking off of the motherboard. you can take it to a shop if you want to spend the money to re-solder the connection to the motherboard. this usally doesnt work. you can either replace the system board or buy a new laptop. i hope you still have warranty coverage on it.

If you mean the plug that goes into the computer has to be held at an angle to work it could be a cracked solder joint in the computer that may or may not be easy to fix. Taking it to a computer store and seeing if another charger has the same problem would tell.
If you're talking about the charger itself that has to be held funny to work, it's usually a broken wire where it comes out of the charger. A new charger is the best solution.
There's no reason for anybody to get mad. It happens all the time, and isn't a sign of abuse. They just go bad.
If you got it for Christmas, the warranty might be about to run out, so you need to check that.

IF your adapter has a yellow tip, it has 3 clicks to lock it in the power port. If you have put glue on it you have just created an intentional damage to the notebook that if you send it in for a power power issue, especiaolly if it is for the power port, will cost about $320. The new charger is only a $100 and get a universal 90 watt adapter and power cord to charge your notebook.
