Mine has to be either
The True Adventures Of The Rolling Stones
(A great book about their 1969 tour and the disastrous Altamont Concert)
Or
Hammer Of The Gods
(About Led Zeppelin's Career)
Ever read either of them?

Evening Darth :)
{19:06 here}

I haven't read either, though I have heard of the Led Zep one.

The book I have and love is :~

Never Break the Chain: Fleetwood Mac and the Making of "Rumours" by Cath Carroll (Vinyl Frontier Series)

It isn't just about Rumours, but actually looks at the band from its origins as Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac, through the Bob Welch and 'fake FM' eras, to the post '75 line-up. Then it follows the band through the albums that followed Rumours, all the way to Say You Will.

Strangely, Albert Goldman's notorious biography, "The Lives Of John Lennon" is a pretty riveting read, simply because the book itself has so many subtexts (but mainly Al's intense and very badly-concealed dislike for his subject.)

Some of his claims are so poorly-researched and unsupported (e.g. that Lennon kicked Stu Sutcliffe to death, etc.) that the book is at least semi-fiction. But he does make some observations along the way that are interesting for Beatles fans.

I haven't read his hatchet job on Elvis yet (I'll check out the Stones book you mentioned, though), but I remember that when Phil Spector was told that Goldman had died, he said "can you go back and make sure?" or something to that effect!

My "Rock N Roll Books" tend to be from some of the more poetic musical artists. some of my favorites (at the moment) are Fear of Dreaming by Jim Carroll, Black Coffee Blues by Henry Rollins

It was just hilarious and it had such pretty pictures....

I would say it's a toss up between Grace Slicks, Somebody to Love and John Densmores, Riders on the Storm.

HOTG is probably the best book for delivering the behind the scenes debauchery of a great rock band.

Scar Tissue, Anthony Kiedis' biography is pretty honest (unless he was embellishing his addiction, recovery, addiction, recovery, addiction, recovery...).

It's hard to believe that dude is still alive.

I have to admit that I haven't read either of the books you listed, but the best for me of that genre would have to be "Moon The Loon" by Dougal Butler. As you would imagine, it's all about Keith Moon, but written from the point of view of his minder. It doesn't get much better than this s**t.....
