They don't kill God in the movie. They attempted to in the 3rd book of the series. Atheists wouldn't care because they don't believe God exist and you can't kill who you don't believe exist.

Here is the gist of the info I've found:

There is some controversy where the author of the books that the movie is based on has used his books to push his agnostic/atheistic beliefs. I read a little about it and there was a quote from him where he basically says that the reason he wrote the books was to make an Anti-Narnia Series. This goes a little beyond questionable content. I remember Christians feaking out about the Harry Potter Books, which
turns out not to be a big deal, those books/movies aren't really pushing an agenda of some sort. The "Dark Materials" books (The series that the Golden Compass comes from) does have an agenda that the author admits in some interviews I have read.

Here are some quotes:
"I hate the Narnia books, and I hate them with a deep and bitter passion," he told one interviewer, "with their view of childhood as a golden age from which sexuality and adulthood are a falling-away."

"Atheism suggests a degree of certainty that I'm not quite willing to accede. I suppose technically, you'd have to put me down as an agnostic. But if there is a God, and he is as the Christians describe him, then he deserves to be put down and rebelled against. As you look back over the history of the Christian church, it's a record of terrible infamy and cruelty and persecution and tyranny. How they have the bloody nerve to go on Thought for the Day and tell us all to be good when, given the slightest chance, they'd be hanging the rest of us and flogging the homosexuals and persecuting the witches."

"There are churches there, believe me, that cut their children too, as the people of Bolvangar did—not in the same way, but just as horribly. They cut their sexual organs, yes, both boys and girls; they cut them with knives so that they shan't feel. That is what the church does, and every church is the same: control, destroy, obliterate every good feeling."

Here is a quote from one of the Characters in the book.

"The Christian religion is a very powerful and convincing mistake, that's all," says an influential character named Mary Malone, who then goes on to relate her own "testimony" of why she abandoned her calling as a nun.

So, if you are a Christian I would avoid any support of the material, the best thing to do is not to draw hype to the controversy cause people will then become curious. I had a Christian friend who was very Anti-Harry Potter (Which I think the Potter Books are amazing, but "different strokes for different folks") So she went and bought the books to read them and point out all the bad things in them thus giving her money in support of the sales. Who knows, maybe Hollywood got rid of all the Anti-God material in the Golden Compass and created a great fantasy adventure movie, but I doubt it. Here is a pretty good article where I got my info.

Again, if you decide this isn't for you, It's simple, don't go see it. The only thing that bothers me is that they compare it to Chronicles of Narnia and Lord of the Rings and shed them in the same light, when it is obvious that even thought they are fantasy movies they come from different places. Granted you can't punish someone for their point of view, and I think the author sounds pretty ignorant, so I encourage any just to leave it alone if you don't like the views in the material.

The movie is based on a book.
This book belongs to a trilogy.
The trilogy, is written by an Atheist.
I think its pretty stupid, an ATHEIST (which, if i'm correct, they don't believe in God.) why would an Atheist write a book about killing God? That has to mean that there is a God, because they are going to kill him!
If this movie is following the books, then this movie doesn't kill God, the third movie will. But this movie could have all of the books in it..idk.
Haha, i laugh at the thought of killing God. Not because i'm sick and twisted, but because its simply impossible, to kill God.
The movie is tricking parents into taking their kids to see it, because it looks like a harmless movie. But some kids, like my age (13) will find out the background of the movie. The parents will to. If they are strong in their faith as a Christian, then they wouldn't let that movie have any affect on there religion. But some people that don't have that strong of faith, will have the movie have a great affect on them.
I am not going to see it. Waist of time.
Its your desiciion if you are or not, i suggest not to.
Are you strong in your faith?
No? Then stay away.
Yes!? Then take a risk by seeing it and judge it yourself.

OMFG I AM TIRED OF HEARING ABOUT THIS MOVIE!!

YES! It was written by an atheist, NO he doesn't kill god in his books. And even if he did, we killed jesus and have put it on the big screen, people are upset about this movie based on the fact the author is atheist. WHO CARES!

Just because someone doesn't believe in god doesn't mean they want to kill him. Many of the United States top scientist are atheist because they believe in the evolution theory.

Just because someones point of view is different then yours doesn't mean we all have to freak out. Be more open minded, no one religion is right and the authors point is that organized religion is flawed, not god. And hes right organized religion is flawed and corrupt. Even God would agree with that.

You people are a disgrace. The only way to fully uinderstand religion and god is to look at all points of views, not just the narrow minded view you all have.

Go see the movie.Enjoy it if its good If you have young kids explain to the you can not kill God or what ever the movie conveys . Most of the movies are either Anti Christian , Anti God , Anti Christ , Anti Family you get the picture.
If people would get off their butts and talk the time to talk to there kids instead of letting them get there ideas of how to live and what to believe from mainstream T.V. and movies their children would have a strong foundation and movies like this would not shake them

I hope it not true. I want to know the truth. The book was written by an Atheist. I don't think if they are trying to kill God it should go to the movie thethers. I don't think that we have made a movie and they were trying to kill somebody important to somebody's religion. I think that is just so wrong. I mean one day at school we were talking about that horrible movie and my teacher didn't know anything about that movie and she was just in shock. It just makes me so mad that they would go that far.

Now that said, Im not going for one. I will check it out and if I find this to be true rest assured---not attending, enough passivity! Tired of God haters! They are LIFE HATERS. If they had any care for others they would encourage the seeking of their Creator God Almighty- and since they cannot disprove Him they should keep their seething hatred to themselves. But they won't because their father is the father of all lies and insists his children spread lies like cancer, little insinuations, "surely He doesn't mean that?" sound familiar? I mean, they killed Jesus Christ did they not?
