Russia in fact did not get out of WWI1.
The Russians fought Germany until near the official end of the war, and after the Russian revolution, a ceasefire, not a treaty was declared between Germany, and Russia.
This helped prolong the war in Europe, because the Germans were able to transfer troops, and supplies to fight in Europe.

The communist revolution started, basically taking Russia out of the war, since there was too much internal fighting to be able to field an army on the front. If the Germans were not already under pressure from the west, they might have had a chance to push east and make significant gains.

After the Russian Revolution in the fall of 1917, the priority was to get Russia out of the War. Russian soldiers were deserting en masse. The Soviet-German Treaty of Brest-Litovsk was signed on 3 March 1918.
Russia lost 26% of its population, and Ukraine, Poland, Finland, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia were set free.
This was undone by the Treaty of Versailles at the end of World War I - - 8 months later, so Germany never had a chance to exploit all this new territory.
Added note. The Czar and his family were shot to death in July 1918 which was four months after the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk took Russia out of the war. The Bolsheviks Reds were fighting the Whites who might have used the Czar as a figurehead, so he had to be eliminated. Unfortunately, his wife Alexandra (Queen Victoria of Britain's grand- daughter), their four young daughters, and one young son were also slaughtered (July 17, 1918).
