I started only breastfeeding her on one side because I had too much milk and she would choke so I read on Breastfeeding.com to only let her eat on one side for each feeding.
If the spotting is caused by not breastfeeding as much (using both sides) if I pump the other side after she is done or in between feedings will I stop spotting? Am I going to start getting my period? and if so, Is my milk going to dry up? I heard that you do not get your period until you stop breastfeeding. I do not want to EVER use formula. Please Help! Thank you in advance!
Also, my baby is 10 weeks old today and is growing very well. She was 7 lbs 2.2 ounces and 19 1/2 inches when she was born and is now 12.5 lbs and 24 inches at 10 weeks. She also uses a pacifer.

I don't see how it would be caused by only feeding off one breast. You are still nursing as much, just using one side. I have always only ever used one side per feeding. You, like me, may just be one of the unfortunate ones that starts their period while still breastfeeding. I am still breastfeeding(never been given artificial baby milk) my 11 month old, but I started my period again at 7w post partum.

I breast fed all my children and although i never did just the one side I still would pump both anyway after nursing just to keep adding to my freeze supply in case I wanted to go to the store by myself or I'd be to sore to nurse. I think it's a good idea to pump. After my first i never had my period and I was exclusively breastfeeding and when he was 5 months old I got pregnant again and I still nursed him for another 2 or 3 months then put him on 2% cows milk. Then when our second was born I nursed her until she was 9 months old and i spotted once in a while but never had an actual period. My periods were always regular before I had children and they are now but I still got pregnant with my third child without having a period. I don't think your milk supply will dry up. I hope that helps you out a bit.

98% of women do not get their periods if
1. you space out feedings no longer than 3hours during the day and one 6 hour stretch at night.
2. you exclusively nurse, no formula or solid food
3. you don't use pacifiers
4. you don't pump in place of feedings
5. baby suckles at least 60 minutes within 24 hours.
I think most american moms don't breastfeed this way. Any of these would increase your chance of getting your period...or you could just be one of the 2%. I don't think it has anything to do with breastfeeding on one side at a time.

ni, it is not caused by letting your baby nurse on one side. it is probably your period returning. it is no big deal to get your period while you breastfeed.. i have nursed two babies, one breast per feeding, 16 months so far and it is no big deal. in fact, i would think it strange if you didnt get your period while you nursed. some people wrongly think that nursing is birth control... W-R-O-N-G! also, when you get your period, it can change the taste of your milk... the baby *may* not ilke the difference, or may not care.
if you pump the other side, you are going to make your body think it needs to produce way more milk than your baby needs, and the choking will only get worse. dont pump! let her nurse as much as she wants off one side. then the next feeding, offer the other side. Your period will NOT make your milk dry up.

some people are lucky and dont have a period but its also ok to have a period it wont effect anything and i highly doubt pumping will stop a period or spotting.
I breast fed my daughter for nearly six months(no bottles at all) and even after i stopped it took two months to get my period back.
Someone i know breastfed her daughter and with in a couple days of stopping she got her period back officially and spotted while breastfeeding.
Every woman's body is different.

Everyone is different. It means nothing. That is why they say do not use nursing as a form of birthcontrol. I began menstruating again anywhere from 2 months to 6 months after giving birth and nursing fulltime. Your milk is fine. Don't worry about it.

Many women do menstruate while still breastfeeding. Your milk will not dry up if your periods return. Just keep nursing, and you should be fine.
