The 3rd law relates the time (T) of a planets year to its average distance(radius R in astronomical units) from the sun.

T^2 = R^3

Knowing the period of the planets year would allow you to rearrange the equasion and solve for R giving you an average distance from the sun

So the longer it takes a planet to travel arround the sun (planetary year) the further away from the sun its average orbit is.
