The Visgoths or West Goths were one of the most important of the Germanic peoples who appeared in Europe in the 4th Century A.D. They separated from the Ostrogoths or East Goths. They raided Roman territories. In 376 they were attacked by Huns. In 378 they defeated the army of the emperor Valens. In 382 Emperor Theodosius I settled them in Moesia. In 395 under the leadership of Alaric they moved southward into Greece and then Italy. They sacked Rome in 410. They settled in Gaul (ancient France), and eventually in Roman Spain in 415. Theodoric I was their first King. They were defeated by the Franks under Clovis near Poitiers in 507. They lost all their possessions in Gaul except Septimania. But they built a nation in Spain. They adopted the Arian form of Christianity with Toledo as their capital. But in 711 the Visigothic nation was conquered by the Muslims from North Africa.

If you're not happy/ sure about what you got from wiki cross check it with other sources (see below) or encyclopedias in your local/ school library.
Basically the Visigoths were an Indo-European people venturing west around 100BC serching for new lands to feed its members. At some point the group separated and while some stayed in Northern regions the others went south where they eventually met the Huns and had to move on.
Eventually the Germanic tribes including Visigoths, Vandals, and Saxons contributed to the fall of the Roman Empire.
