I have a 4.0, an AA from a good community college, time spent abroad and international scholar. Cons are a poor HS record (4 years ago!), above average but not fantastic SAT. Please help, no one else will!

The 4.0 from the community college is a plus. Your poor HS record and SAT less of minus because you have an AA degree. What courses did you take while at the community college? Were they the more rigorous coures? Did you take calculus, finite math, economics, sciences other than general chem, biology, or physics? What did your references say about you? Were you attempting to gain general admission to UVA or admission to a specific school?

Ask for a review of your application.

Above average but not fantastic SAT scores could be the reason. Still -- you sound like you could be qualified to get into UVA. But being qualified isn't enough.

UVA is one of the best public universities in the country and is very selective. It gets a lot of applications from qualified students, and has to turn down more qualified students than it can accept. You need to really stand out.

With your performance in CC, you should get into some decent school. You need to make sure that you spin things right. Address the fact that you did not do well in HS and let them know that your CC grades are more indicative of how you will do in your last two years of college.

Good luck.
