I am about as handy with fabrics and fibers as a trapdoor in a canoe, but even I can make a scarf, striped or solid, with fringe, in about two hours using a Knifty Knitter. It's a loom approach to knitting, and when Michaels first started carrying them about 4-5 years ago, I had to demonstrate one without ever having even seen one. I read the directions, and was getting a little anxious about doing this in front of a store full of people, when my scrapbooking instructor popped in with her kids. When I explained my dilemma, she said that it was no problem, even her five year old son could make a hat in a couple of hours. Naturally, I said, well I think I'd like to SEE that...so she sent him out to get a skein of yarn. He came back with the ugliest ball of yarn in the whole store, sat down and proceeded to cast on and knit about a dozen rows. I figured if a five year old could do it, I had a pretty good chance.
Hats and tube scarves just go around and around...if you want a single weight flat scarf (which tends to curl, like any knitted item) you have to do rows, back and forth.
The set of four looms comes with a tool, costs about $7-10, depending on whether or not it is on sale, and there is an excellent illustrated booklet for $1.
It's a lot of fun, and also a great way to knit hats and scarves for charity by using up partial skeins.

1. fabric store, buy some fleece,
2. cut the fleece about 6 inches wide by at least 60 inches long.
3. take your scissors, and cut a fringe on each end of the scarf, about 2 inches long by half inch wide.
options, you can make a matching hat, 2 squares of fleece each 10 inches wide by 10 inches long, sew them into a tube, take a piece of yarn or ribbon and tie it around the top, and fold up a brim, you are done.
You can choose holiday colors, or you can find already decorated fleece, my sister even found some that had been die-cut to have a lace look. you can make the scarf in two colors, just cut two lengths with different colored fleece, put them together, stitch around the edges, and when you do the fringe, knot the fringes together.
You can also learn to knit, and knit one.
You can go to the thrift store, buy a bunch of old 100% wool sweaters, toss them into the wash with hot water and a bit of detergent and shrink them. Cut them into lenghths, and stitch together using embroidery floss, to add interest. add a fringe with yarn, and their you are.
lots of ways to make scarves!

i love making scarfs. many people use 2 needles but i think one needle is a lot easier. my mom knew how to do it so she tought me! find out from someone who can do it. An easier way would be to get a really good fabric and cut it out...then stich around it with the smae color string and add decorations if you like!
