my daughter is 3 1/2 months old and our family doc is telling me that her upper body and neck muscles are not as strong as what they should be for her age. Also ive seen other babies her age and i do see the difference. Ive tried tummy time but she will only stay there for like a minute or so and then start crying and will not stop until i pick her up. what can i do too help her. My 19 month old son never had any issues with his neck and upper body muscles and he was premee, someone please help!! thanks

tummy time, tummy time, tummy time!

roll up a small towel and prop it under her chest so her arms go over it. This might make her more comfortable.

Lay down in front of her so she can see you. Give her books with bright, simple pictures to look at or a small mirror. Talk to her while she is on her tummy.

When she becomes upset (even after a minute) pick her up. Then, put her back down later. Just do it often.

And remember, if she lays on her tummy while on top of you (if you are laying on the bed, or sofa) then that also counts as tummy time!

lay with her on the floor. when you read her board books or show her toys, move them from left to right up and down and encourage her to look at them.
step out of her sight while she is in her bouncey seat, and talk to her she'll turn her head to the sound of your voice. again, encouragement when she does this.
Does she have a floor gym with the dangly things?
If so put her under this and again, encourage her to reach for the toys, this will build up her neck muscles.

Carry her in a sling during the day. Your hands will be free to play with your toddler and do other things, and your baby will develop more normally as her body moves with yours.

Maybe I am wrong, but if you are breastfeeding you could take a folic acid supplement or add more folic acid to your diet, I know that this is supposed to help in pregnancy to development of the spine.

Lay her down for tummy time and lay yourself down as well. She's likely upset because she can't see you.

Lots of crawling will eventually strengthen that area.
