We are supposed to be Athens.
Enjoyed the great movie. But, Sparta is misrepresented in 300. They were gays, pedophiles, anti-semitic, poorly educated losers. They had one tactical Pyrrhic victory. The wealthy, educated, intelligent, het Athenian war machine threw out the Persians in the end.

However, most of the "cut and run" Democrats would not have made it. In Sparta if you returned home without your shield, it was presumed that you threw it at the enemy and ran. So you would either be executed or told to leave Dodge.
