Gee, i wasnt talking about social problems, the answeres brought that up.

i meant are we actually devolving. someone pointed out that medication is allowing people to live longer and keeping sick people alive that should have been weeded out of the gene pool. also, social problems do come into play a little bit because who is it thats having all the kids? is it the educated and healthy people or is it the dumb and unhealthy? hmmm? its the dumb and unhealthy. so based on, at least, these two things i think its a safe bet to assume that we are beginning to devolve.

btw, people are not taller now than they ever have been. we have such poor diets that we are shorter now than we were in the second half of the twentieth century

No to both questions.

As a species, we are improving in every measureable way. We're healthier (i.e. taller, live longer), better educated, create better community (far less slavery, more social and commercial infrastructure), and are finally beginning to understand our impact on our own environment.

I happen to think it is impossible for humans to devolve. No matter what we become we have evolved.

I do not know what someone would consider to be their proof of such a thing. If you consider lack of moral character as your classification to be proof of humans devolving, then I would say you are looking at this from a purely subjective perspective. Atrocities continue today that have existed for all of recorded history. We just label them differently depending on our perspective of right and wrong. That is always in flux, it seems.

I don't know about devolving, but dumbing down for sure. I really doubt that it is my fault but I am sure that there will be people who blame me. The dumbing down effect in my opinion is caused by the computer. Think about it for a sec. Everything in the world is now at you fingertips. Research is now done not by reading, but by point and click or just put out a question out here. Work in many aspects has become to easy. Here is an example. The wife who is a computer programmer something, had some work to yesterday. She sat here on the couch with here laptop and worked. Now here we sit. Asking and answering questions rather than sitting down and thinking for ourselves. Yeah, it's my fault.

Firstly, devolving is a regression of the genetic structure to an earlier form. The human evolutionary process, while it may not be to your liking, is progressive. Furthermore, The state of the human condition has nothing to do with evolution as the evolutionary process occurs over tens of thousands of years, not in a few generations. The problems we as humanity are facing are social. Referring to these issues as devolution is only a way of passing blame. It is OUR fault that society is in its present condition. Education and self-control are sorely lacking in our time and it is these issues that need to be addressed.

Yes, we are passing our bad genes to the next generation by the over use of medication and trying to keep someone alive when natural selection is trying to weed out the weak.

i think people are devolving, junk food makes them not develope as well, calculaters make them not think as much, tv is a waste of life but we chose to watch it anyway. i think that scientists are getting smarter in order to make humanity dumber, this may sound diffrent but i think the goverment has to do with controlling the human enteligence, we should have been in other planets with aliens by now, but as i said we are devolving...

Depends on what you are refering to.
Morals- Yes.
Technology- NO

My fault? Well, if I'm not part of the solution then by default... I guess it is!
