It isn't bad with highway driving but is really bad with stop and go traffic. My mechanic said it could be all sorts of different things. A sensor or something. Also is stalls and takes around 15 minutes to start.

When was your last time the car was tuned up? This would be a good place to start. With all your symptoms you have indicated no wonder the mechanic said it was all kinds of problems. But the one thing that you said indicates the tune up for me was that it runs ok at higher speeds.

Could have slipped timing. Maybe belt/chain slipped on cog. Or, spark plugs could be bad. hard to say. It will cost about $75 for a diagnostic analysis-go for it.

There could be dozens of things going on. tow it to your mechanic b4 you damage it further and cost yourself more money.
