Remember, that no matter what, you MUST maintain proper form (called stroke mechanics). Do not thrash at the water for speed, improve your stroke ... lengthen your stroke ... work turns ... extend your streamline ... keep your head down ... GOOD STROKE MECHANICS!
Great swimmers exhibit several things:
1. Good stroke mechanics
2. What coaches call, being "coachable" ... in other words, do you accept instruction without excuses or talking back? Do you implement change based on that instruction? Do you ask for feedback from the coach?
3. Do you have the mental attitude, the "heart", that competitive fire to compete?
If you've got those three, you'll do great. After that, there is one more thing that you cannot control ... do you have the genetics. Even if someone else has better genetics, if you have the first three, you're gonna have a lotta fun!

YES!!!!!!!!!!!! Having someone on your feet while swimming makes you work harder. HAv them right behind you, causing you to kick and move your arms faster, making you adjust to the fast momment, making you better. GOOD LUCK
