I remember that too it was amazing to see the washing hanging as straight as soldiers and putting my fingers in my mouth to stop them from freezing whilst I bought the washing it off of the line.
The smell of the crumpets being toasted on the open fire on a saturday afternoon while me da listened to the football results on the radio. And then seeing the washing crumble as me ma put it on the clothes horse round the fire and watching the steam rising from it.
You have just awakened so many dormant memories...Thank you!

It is not so much that I loved it ,but when I was in the army(national service) in the north of Greece,we would wash our uniforms and then hang them to dry on a tall wire fence.this ,as the fence was quite high, involved holding the item from a sleeve, swerving back, and then sort of throwing it over the fence.the next morning we had to go,hold the sleve and just unhook it from the fence, like a flag but the pole was the sleve !!!
Oh by the way I think you very odd bod !!!! bwahahaha

Yes :)
I have vivid memories of that. I lived somewhere that gets colder in winter than where I live now. Where I live now is too near sea level so it never gets quite that cold.
Its funny you should ask as I was just thinking about this the other day :)
I grew up in Yorkshire where it was a bit hilly and it got alot colder there. I didn't mind so much as we had snow and that was fun.
You are not an odd bod...I remember it well and thanks for reminding me of that fun element of winter :)

I do remember the Terry's nappies being frozen on the line. People used to say that the frost made them whiter.

WOW - how old are you? LOL j/k
I grew up with a dryer that we used when it was too cold...but now I live down south and it doesn't get that cold that often so I put my clothes out to dry more. Maybe I will try to leave them out to freeze next time the temp. goes down...

Oh my, yes. I once hung my hubby's jeans out on a bitter cold day, and they cracked when I took them off the line. I was afraid the jeans would be torn! We had a good laugh at that .
