How does one format text in two columns, in XHTML?

I seek responses, compliant with XHTML 1.0 Transitional, or XHTML 1.0 Strict.

Probably the easiest way would be to create a table for your text. If you like you can delete the outside borders so it doesn't look boxed in. The results gives you text in two columns.
