The idea was to wipe out the entire Russian royal family. Back in the days of monarchies, the only way to insure an heir to the throne wouldn't come back to mount a challenge was to off everyone with a legitimate claim. Of course, the Bolsheviks were thinking like monarchists themselves; they didn't realize that the modern way of killing a monarchy is to govern well enough (mainly through equal rights) no one would want them back.

So that no Romanov family member could rise and take the throne. They had to eliminate anyone who could be a potential threat to the Bolsheviks. Afterward, they told the public that only the tsar was killed to prevent people from freaking out over it.

Even if she wasn't murdered, it would be highly unlikely that Anastasia would assume the throne because it was against royal protocol for women to be monarchs (after Catherine the Great).

Still, she or any of her family members and servants did not deserve to die senselessly.

When you abolish a system of having a royal family, you don't want the general public having hope that this system will return to power. So,you have to eliminate it.
Same way as when one royal family met the other on the battlefield. The losers were all killed including the servants, guards, cooks, maids, farmhands ,coachmen, personal administration staff and all their combined family members as well so no one will come back later and seek revenge or challenge the winners authority.

Her family represented the "old" Russia, and the revolutionaries only wanted the "new". They wanted to end any sympathy for the ruling class, and by eliminating the entire family, they thought they could erase them from history.

Of course, they failed in that goal.

Anastasia, by the way, was rumored to have survived, although it has never been proved.

They were the symbol of Russia before the evolution had started. It was rather pointless since they had no more power, but Stalin wanted them out of the way so that he could have more of a chance to bring everyone over to "his side."

There death was ordered by Lenin so that supporters could not even think about restoring the Tsar. However he had relatives, so it was not a bright move. It was also done as an act of terror.
