I had installed an update to my norton (I know most of you don't like it, that's not my issue right now). I was finally able to get a system restore to work by going back almost a month, but my internet connections are not working now. I have a wireless laptop that I am using, but the problem is with my desktop. Will doing a system recovery fix the problems? If so, how do I go about it? I would appreciate any help I could get. Thanks.

Get a live Linux distribution such as Knoppix, burn it to a CD, change the BIOS settings to boot from the optical drive, do that. When it's finished booting, get a pendrive and transfer all the files you want to keep to a PC from which you can burn optical disks and make a record of the characteristics of your internet connections. Burn what you want to disk, verify the files are there and intact, then reformat the hard drive on the problematic PC, reinstall Windows (if you can, otherwise try using some good version of Linux which supports your hardware), put the files back in the appropriate places and you're done. Reconfigure the internet connections from the information you've gathered.

I've never used an antivirus program and have been using computers since the mid-'seventies. I have never had a virus. I think anti-virus programs are more trouble than they're worth and a way of selling you something you don't need which stops you being able to use your computer properly.
