Hi all

I've got a problem with my combi-boiler

When cold the boiler is at about 1 bar. But when hot (65C) it shoots up to 3.5/4 bar. The red line is at 2.5 bar so I'm guessing this isn't a good thing?

This is a fairly old boiler.

Any ideas?

Thanks for any help.

Steve

Can I try re-pressurizing the exp tank myself? Do I just pump some air in? To what pressure?

It is the expansion vessel, needs re-pressurising, or is broken, amsterdam, yours is either pressure relief valve or you have a leak on the system, take a look outside, if the copper pipe is dripping, you need a new prv.

Vaillant Combi Boiler Pressure

I've got the same boiler, (5 yrs old) but the opposite problem, water is leaking slowly out of the system and every few weeks we have to let more water in.

Assuming you haven't had it serviced in a while, I think that's what you'd better do. Vaillant are quite good, they charge about £100, but you can check with them before you book the appt. I think you're right about it not being a good thing.

it is the expansion vessel, its either burst or its needing recharged.the system need to have no pressure in it to check it.the vessel has a schreuder valve on it like a car tyre, normally at the top,at the back off the boiler. you can try and pump it back up using a foot pump,1bar would be about right.if it does not hold the air, then you need to renew it.

I would guess that the expansion vessel has no air in it, and it cannot therefore absorb any of the expansion pressure. Could just need repressurised or maybe the air pump has failed, you don't state a model number.

This could be the expansion vessel needs recharging with air, or the bladder in the expansion vessel has perished and so it will need replacing.
It could also be a problem with restriction in the pipe that goes to the expansion vessel

It's possibly the pressure relief valve, but for a more accurate answer try asking the question on www.mrcombi.com
