I may have to get involved with this if I get a job that I really want - and I need a heads up as to what it is all about. So if you have experience of this and would like to pass it on to someone who is just thinking "map reading and mud" then I would be really grateful. Thanks

My question is WHAT IS THE DUKE OF EDINBURGHS AWARD, WHAT DO YOU DO please don't just tell me you have done it because that doesn't help me at all. And I will be teaching it, not doing it.

Five answers so far and still no one can tell me what you actually do on. If you are like John, and have nothing constructive to say, please just save your breath to cool your porridge.

I must admit I have not been on the scheme but my Grandson has.
It was last year and while he initially reacted against it (with the same Mud & Map reading idea). After a few days he realised that it was not as bad as he had thought and put a little more effort in. He quickly bonded with other students and when they were broken into smaller groups found the benefit of acting as a team as oppose to an individual.
He came out a much better young man and was proud of his award.
People will react in different was but one certain thing is certain, and that is, you will only get out what you are prepared to put in.
Having asked the question I would think that you will contribute and in the end do well. Good luck.

SORRY BUT WITH THE FIRST 4 ANSWERS ALL ASSUMING THAT YOU WERE GOING ON THE COURSE (NO MENTION OF TEACHING) IT DOSE SEEM TO INDICATE THAT YOUR QUESTION WAS NOT VERY CLEAR.

Your last paragraph sounds about right for modern education. I'M TEACHING IT NOT DOING IT.
