I did not support the Iraq war from the beginning. However, the troops are there, they need our support, and funding, until they come home. Are there any more out there that feel the same way?

The troops do not pick and choose what war they go to.To fight against an enemy is just part of their job title. What war they go to is made by politicians. The Afghanistan war was justified in my opinion but the Iraq war was a decision made for economic reasons(oil and nothing else). I personally hate all war, but I am a strong believer in peace keeping and understand its place on the world stage(dafur).

Sorry,no. I'm sure you mean well. But saying "I suport the troops and not the war" and then supporting funding the war, makes supporting the troops and opposition to the war empty rhetoric.

YOu CANNOT claim to be against theis war and for the troops--and at the same time support funding a war policy that sends them over there to get killed for no reason. The funding MUST be cut--that is the only way to force Bush to start withdrawing the troops. Anything else is, as I said, mere rhetroic. Our soldiers will still die.

The Iraq war needs to end. We can fully support the troops and not the war. I agree that the troops deserve to be funded, but remember it is the President whom has vetoed the funding bills, not the Democrats. Perhaps you will say that the Democrats should not send 'phony' funding bills to the President, but what else can they do? However, they (the troops) need to come home. The best way, in my opinion, to support the troops is to bring them home and give them the benefits our veterans deserve. This is a 'stale saying', but "Support the Troops! Bring them home!"

If I were a President and I wanted to invade a country for my personal gain, I would count very largely on the people not questioning my motivations for starting the war, in the name of believing that supporting the troops must also mean blindly supporting the war.

Supporting the troops does and should NOT also mean having to check ones personal moral code at the door and blindly support a war that may be questionable.

THE ONLY WAY TO END THIS DAMN WAR THAT WE HAVE NO BUSINESS IN TO BEGAN WITH. IS TO STOP SENDING ANY MORE MONEY THERE.IF THE MONEY KEEPS COMING IN FOR THE WAR THEN THE WAR GOES ON, AND ON, AND ON.WHEN DOES ALL THE DEATH AND GRIEF AND SUFFERING STOP.THE TROOPS ARE DOING THE BEST THEY CAN. I;AM BEHIND THEM ALL THE WAY.BUT IF WE CONTINUE TO FUND THE WAR IT JUST WON;T STOP MORE OF OUR YOUNG MEN AND WOMEN WILL DIE.AND IN THE END FOR WHAT CAUSE.I;VE SAID THIS TIME AND TIME AGAIN THE IRAQ WAR IS ANOTHER VIET NAM ALL OVER AGAIN.WE ARE DOING THE SAME THING ALL OVER AGAIN AS WE DID IN VIET NAM.WE ARE TELLING THE AMERICAN PEOPLE THAT THE WAR IS A JUST ONE. BUT AT THE SAME TIME KNOW THAT WE ARE ONLY WASTING OUR TIME OVER THERE.AND IF AND WHEN THIS WAR IN IRAQ EVER COMES TO AN END.IT;S GOING TO BE THE AMERICAN PEOPLE WHO HELP REBUILD THAT COUNTRY WITH THEIR HARD EARNED MONEY FOR YEARS TO COME.YOU CAN;T CHANGE SOMETHING THAT HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR THOUSANDS OF YEARS OVER THERE.RUSSIA WAS KICKED OUT OF THAT PART OF THE WORLD.WHAT MAKES YOU THINK THAT WE ARE ANY DIFFERENT THEN THEY WERE.AND YES YOU CAN STILL SUPPORT THE TROOPS WITH MORAL SUPPORT. BUT AS FAR AS MONEY, IF YOU WANT TO END THE WAR. THEN THE MONEY MUST STOP GOING THERE.BRING OUR TROOPS HOME AND STOP THE KILLING OF OUR YOUTH.THIS IS NOT A JUST WAR IT;S ALL ABOUT CONTROL OF THE OIL FIELDS.THEIR CULTURE IS LIKE THAT OF VIET NAM YOU WON;T CHANGE IT.AND WHEN WE LEAVE THE FIGHTING WILL CONTINUE TO GO ON.THERE WILL BE ANOTHER MAD MAN JUST LIKE SADDAM AND BIN LADEN.AND MORE WAR.LET THEM KILL OFF EACH OTHER BUT DON;T USE OUR YOUNG PEOPLE TO DO THEIR FIGHTING FOR THEM ANY MORE.THIS COUNTRY HAS;NT LEARNED ANYTHING SINCE WORLD WAR TWO ENDED.WAKE UP AMERICA.

I absolutely support the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. And despite the reasons for going to war and how the war has been handled thus far... in which I adimentally disagree with... I want to WIN this war. I will be damned if Politicians like Harry Reid or Nancy Pelosi will influence my opinion on that topic.
Supporting the troops and wanting to WIN this war is the ONLY right thing to do.
Cutting and running is disgraceful. See Vietnam for an example of what happens AFTER you do that.
It seems like things are going well over there lately... which is good news for those of us enlightened enough to take the position to WANT to win!
Its the quickest way to get our guys home!

I'm confused...it seems like you're saying that you yourself support the troops but not the war...so why are you asking how anyone possibly could?

Of course you can support the people who have been sent into harm's way without agreeing with the "reason" they were initially sent there. Most reasonable and sane people are capable keeping two separate concepts like that in their minds at the same time.

If persons must equate the present leadership--and adopt the same philosophy that is presented by the current temporary leadership-- in this country with the actions and assigned job of soliders; then it would be impossible to support them.

Yes.

The troops are our men and women sent there to do a job.

The war was an idea from a small group of men and women in office that decided to interfere with another country. (Terrorism of course a real threat, but we are not fighting terrorists, we are fighting average citizens used to a way of life that we do not understand).
