hi, i need to find out what firewall my computer is running. how can i do this.

Assuming windows.
Most computers do not come with any firewall beyond the Windows Firewall that came with windows XP SP2. If you do not see a firewall software icon in your system tray (down by your clock), then you do not have any special firewall software installed.
Additionally, if you're never prompted to allow outgoing communications, you likely do not have a special software firewall software installed.
You can check the status of the Windows XP Firewall by going into the control panel and double clicking "Firewall" after putting it into classic mode on the left.

If you are using service pack 1 then you won't have Windows Firewall, download Zone Alarm http://www.zonealarm.com/store/content/home.jsp
If you're on SP2 or later then you probably have it http://support.microsoft.com/kb/283673

Avoid Limewire, bearshare, kazza..etc. etc. etc. unless you have AMAZING antivirus software & a fantastic HARDWARE firewall. I GUARANTEE you your PC will be screwed in less than a week otherwise!!! If you MUST download 'stuf' - try a messageboard, they are cleaner.

If your are using Vista, it is completly different. Go start, control pannel, then click on "classic view" on the left and side, and find "Firewall" at the bottom.
