No you cannot tell that to a eight year old. I'll see it as cruelty. She is too young to take it in. Maybe when she is older and if please tell her only if she insists. Tell her she might not like the answer you are going to give her and that it might affect her psychologically then if she still wants to know then please let her know.
Yes sometimes, though I'll not call it a telling alie, its just trying to stop someone from being hurt that if why I say if it can be avoided then dont disclose.
You need a lot of wisdom in dealing with this.

I think its ok, to bend the thruth at times if its in your loved ones best interests. I really do believe in this. At 8 years this child is still too young to get/realise the full understanding of the situation of how mom died. So think in your head about how you're going to explain it, before you do. But having said des, you're the only one who knows how much this child can comprehend.

No, i think that even if the person was to get hurt, they would appreciate being able to know the truth, plus they would be angrier at you for lying that telling the truth a vast majority of the time.

no, especially if that person is your friend because sooner or later he/she will find out the truth and it's better to know the truth from the person you trust , it's going to be hard for you to see that person suffer but that's why you're there to comfort that person and to let that person see that whatever happens that person can count on you and that there's a new tomorrow ...... there are a lot of consequences that may happen you just have to be open about it .... good luck

It depends on what it is that you are trying to protect them from. If it is regarding a relationship they are in I would think very carefully first about telling them a white lie as it may back fire on you.
