Do you think we should insist that everyone in the UK speaks the same language and that foreigners should be included in British society, rather than have many different societies conflicting with each other, which causes problems.

I think that what ever country you live in, you should be able to communicate in the native tongue of that land.

I do feel it helps for their sakes too. The UK is now like a country full of areas of different minorities and we do not mix enough. The Polish have their own cafes and restaurants- a mini Poland within the UK, the Muslims have their Mosques and areas where many of them live together with halal shops etc, the Jews have their areas and the Hindus theirs. Fine, but where does integration and community cohesion start? I'm not that old but I was used to a UK where all streets had a cosmopolitan feel, not an exclusive feel to them. I'm all for different cultures and individuals rights to live how they wish but it makes for separation. Is that a good thing? Probably not. I have tried to mix with everyone which has worked on an individual basis- hindu and muslim friends etc but this doesn't seem to be happening at a community level.

Everybody living in the UK should be able to speak English, this does not stop anyone speaking another language if they wish to.

Of course. Colleges have classes where "foreigners" can learn the English language, free of charge. the truth is,most of them don't want to integrate- they want the NHS, education, housing, benefits, etc., etc., whilst expecting US to tolerate/learn THEIR way of life. Wrong, very wrong.

LADY R...... I suggest you enrol. Your command of the English language is appalling

If everyone in the UK spoke there native tongue, then they would not all be speaking english, (scottish, irish, welsh, spanish, etc), but it would be nice if the English learned to speak english.
