Get a fairly long piece of thin strong bendy piping, lift the grid the water goes down, push the pipe down make sure you cover all the edges to release the stuck on gunk. then run water thru, if you can ,open the main grid with waste pipe underneath and check that the gunk is going thru. keep running water till it runs clearly. after that, if you want to ,run a bit of bleach and hot water down as well. this will clear the blockage. smelly and messy but it works.

The best chemical i've used is called Dam Buster. Very strong stuff. I purchased it from a local plumbers merchant, and it certainly did the job. Make sure you read the directions before using it though. Too much can do more harm than good!!
Hope this helps

It is very difficult to remove, If you can get at the pipes through manholes then break it up and remove what you can by hand and the msaller bits will flush through. You can try using boiling water to melt it but if there is a build up it could take ages.

pour a bottle of Mr muscle drain cleaner down there then when it clears leave the hot water running ...i had that problem once as my wife used to do it and i recall in my drain there was a plastic insert in it that i took out and could then see the greece/fat and was able to free it up

no need to put fat etc down the drain..add some bead to it and put out for the birds..they love it

Before you try any chemical agents, wrap a heating pad around the trap and let it warm up for a couple of hours, then try some boiling water CAREFULLY! If it is congealed grease, the warm pad will soften it up, and the water should finish the job. If you have a significant clog, hot water alone is not enough.

There is a product available at hardware stores called Liquid Fire (TM). Use safety goggles and rubber gloves and follow directions carefully. This is wicked stuff, but has worked on my worst clogs.
