Do you want to be a lawyer? If you love the law, then you are likely to do well in it and there will always be a firm out there who wants to hire you. If you are just looking at it for a salary bump, not so much. I will tell you that of my law school classmates, I don't know of any who went to law school with the intention of going to work for a law firm who did not get a job doing that. Everyone passed the Bar eventually and got what they wanted. However, I do know of people who went to law school only because they thought it would give them money, never passed the Bar, or even if they did, they had trouble finding a job in the law, because their lack of enthusiasm about the field was apparent. Being a lawyer is not like being a waitress or a construction worker. You don't just do your eight hours and collect your paycheck. Expect to dedicate your life to it, or it will make you miserable.

There is always a need in all kinds of companies for people with an understanding of the law. You don't have to work as a lawyer, and could maybe be a contracts negotiator, or many other things.
Pick what is the most fun and interesting for you and specialize in that. I have a friend who has his own toxic waste cleanup law consulting business, another who gives law exam courses, and another who helps inventors copyright and market their ideas! I've worked with others in the healthcare arena. Good luck.

It depends on what you want to do and where you're going to school. If you're at a lower-ranked law school, you can get a job, but it probably won't be a good one. To increase job opportunities, get in the top ten percent and transfer to a better school. That said, you will probably be able to get a job in a small firm, which is preferable to making $20/hr doing document review.

I wouldn't want to go to law school. More power to you though...I am sure with a good resume you will be able to find good work. Depends on where you live too though.

there's lot of work for lawyers

Unless you come out of a junk school you can easily make $50-70K a year to start at a firm or for government, the only disaster is if you strike out on your own.

its only worth it if its what you REALLY want to do. if you want to do it for the rest of your life, when you get out of school, you'll most likely be able to find work. Get an internship when your in school and get involved in other big firms. that would help.
