im pretty concerned about his hip popping....
it doesnt seem to hurt him at all, and he moves his legs around like crazy, so I know there arent any problems that way, but what could be causing this? It pops whenever i lift his bum up to change his diaper, and also just whenever he moves around lot.

My 2 month old daughter has the same issue with her shoulders. Her doctor said that babies' ligaments are a little loose, and that can cause the 'popping.' It is nothing to worry about. The ligaments will tighten as your son gets older and the problem will resolve.

Has he been checked for hip displaysia? It's more common in girls, but all babies do (or at least should) get checked for it shortly after birth.

"What are the symptoms?

The most common scenario is the pediatrician detecting a "hip click" during routine post-natal checkup. Actually, a "clunk", rather than a "click" is detected in the unstable hip, but it requires experience to tell a "clunk" from a "click". The pediatrician typically does the Ortolani test by spreading the thighs, or the Barlow test by bringing the knees together, to elicit this finding."

My sister and I both had it as babies...it is correctable, if that's what it is.

My daughter is the same way, since birth (and she is now 13 months old) her knee's and hips pop often. I asked my Dr. about it and she said it's nothing to be concerned about.

Ya know, at first glance, I was gonna say,
"Yeah! Get down with your bad, hip-hopping, baby-self!",
but then I realized you had a serious question! ;)

So, in that vein, just see your ob/gyn or pediatrician about it
(I'm WAY more concerned that you had to ask such a question to total strangers rather than see your doctor about it!).
