find a new school

Well, it's hard to determine based just on what you're giving us. There's some merit to what others have said; you can all the professors at your school be dishonest and unprofessional and how can all of the students be immature? Even in the lowest rated colleges and universities, this doesn't seem possible.

Ask yourself: do your peers feel the same way? Do they believe that all of the professors are dishonest? Are you in any classes where the other students adore the professors?

Why are the students immature? Do they drink? Forget to hand in their work?

Perhaps it is just the courses you are taking. If you're a first semester freshman, perhaps its just a bit of bad luck and you took the wrong courses and had trouble finding friends like yourself.

But, it could be something inside of you. It might not be the school. And if it is something inside of you, switching schools probably won't fix the problem.

Listen to what others here are telling you. You may be exaggerating for impact, but it seems highly unlikely that everyone at a school is dishonest and unprofessional - and what does that mean to you, anyway? Also, most college students are immature - you may have trouble finding a school that is much better in that category.

Think about what your goals were in college and where you chose to go to school. Were the goals reasonable? I was just writing to someone yesterday who expected an intellectually-charged environment which probably doesn't exist today at any school. On the other hand, there may be some groups at most schools where you could find more of this, such as in the Honors Program. In your case, were you over the age of 18 or 19 when you started, and did you choose a college made up primarily of traditional students? In that case, there may be a mismatch. You might have done better at a state university with an average age of 27 or 28; of course, then you can't expect that most students would have a lot of time to hang around and socialize with you, because they have jobs and families to contend with.

As to dishonest, unprofessional professors, I'm not sure I know what you consider to meet these criteria. Are they stealing your work and publishing it as their own (which I would agree is dishonest and unprofessional!), or are they, themselves, swamped, and having trouble returning papers as quickly as you would like? I've had students complain to me about colleagues being unprofessional when what they meant was that the person was unwilling to spend hours each day regurgitating each lecture to them personally. That isn't their job, and not doing it doesn't make them unprofessional.

It seems to me you have two options. First, you could carefully research other schools and transfer to one which better fits your idea of what a college should be. Secondly, you could find a place within your current school which is a better fit for you. There were a lot of immature students at my college, so I (at the age of a traditional college student) hung out with a group of returning veterans, many of whom were in their 40s. It seems kind of ludicrous to me now that I felt I had more in common with them than I did with students my own age, but it worked for me at the time. If neither of those options works for you, you need to rethink what you think college should be.
