Senator Joe McCarthy started a scandal society that worked on fear of the cold war in the fifties. He started accusing everyone of being a Communist, he went as far as convincing John Wayne, the then Hollywood president of the film studios unions to start firing anyone that had anything to do with Communism. Before John Wayne realized what was going on, it was to late.

The victims were accused of communism when the country was in the midst of a cold war with Russia. People lost there jobs over it, they lost their families over it. Before it ended and Joe was stormed out of Washington, many people had to start over.
