Generally speaking when Governments realised that the multiculturalism they had tried to force on the public had failed miserably, they resorted to various bodies for racial equality to make it unacceptable to criticise or say anything negative about non-indigenous persons. Unfortunately this has actually made the situation worse as the pendulum then swung too far in the opposite direction causing further resentment and separation.

I agree with Stephen M. Already people are attacking liberals. Have any of you liberal attackers read John Stuart Mill? I will say this though. ALL of the attacks on liberal democracy and intellectual thought leading up to the second world war, during and the 20 years after came from the right. Liberal thought of which PC is the excessive cousin at least has at it's center the will do the right thing, even if misguided as some PC is. The PC hating right who will degenerate into fascists given the chance will stop you doing anything that disagrees with them. Does the phrase "you're either with us or against us!" sound familiar? PC came from the liberal movement and the very freedoms you now enjoy are solely down to their actions. I don't see a lot of consideration for others from republicans

It is from commercial customer service. The customer is always right, even if a skank crack whore. No one may be criticized, unless white, het, and male.
Mr. Morden asks for an example. Mr. M, as an experiment, say this at work, publicly. "The sexually promiscuous behavior of homosexuals is a major factor in the spread of HIV-AIDS."
Fired in two minutes.
PC is itself hate speech. It violates the Free Speech Clause, and the freedom to hear speech, the other side of the coin of Free Speech. I suggest, zero tolerance for PC. The slightest remark in PC at work, in diversity training offends the civil rights, and should result in immediate complaints, litigation, and firing of all PC peddlers. Any prof that spouts PC should be reported. The students and victims of PC should demand the immediate removal of such a dangerous professor.

It was developed at the Institute for Social Research in Frankfurt, Germany, which was founded in 1923 and came to be known as the "Frankfurt School." It was a group of thinkers who pulled together to find a solution to the biggest problem facing the implementers of communism in Russia.

I have yet to see a question regarding PC that gives an example of what the asker considers PC. Is not being able to use the "N" word considered PC? What about not being able to make lewd comments to a woman just because she's walking down the street in from of you?

Here's the definition of PC...
'Politically correct language, or political correctness, consists of linguistic restrictions imposed by authorities or pressure groups, particularly by liberals. The modern politically correct movement began at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, one of the most liberal institutions in the United States. George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four famously incorporated the notion of limiting thought through language (see Newspeak).'

I don't know who started it but I know why: Offending somone can get you sued! Or worse, ruin any chance of public office. It just trickled down the ranks to include ordinary people.

I don't know who started it - but I can already see the answers blaming it on liberals.

Radical feminists had a lot to do with it. Why? Part of their efforts to be powerful. If they can't succeed in business and the like, they will attempt to control our langauge, thoughts, and actions.
