release on cassette and vinyl were previously made obsolete?

Yes, I think so. With the decline in CD sales, and many CD retailers closing, this Christmas holiday is the make-or-break time for the CD as we know it. People today can't make it out to a CD store to pick up the album, so they'd rather make it easier and get (legally and/or illegally) in the comfort of their own home. Sam The Record Man and Music World have officially closed up all across Canada, that makes HMV the last "Big Chain" of disc retailers up here.

It just goes to show how many people believe the hype - even when it is totally wrong!

Vinyl is NOT obsolete. In the last 5 years, sales of vinyl have increased by 15%. A new record plant opens up approximately every 6 months, to keep up with demand. Hardly obsolete then, is it?

CD's will be around for a long time. There are millions of people who like GOOD quality music reproduction and hate the squeaky, squawky sound produced from downloads, mp3s and iPods.
