I believe they are, in general. There are always exceptions to this opinion . The people involved and the reasons for attempting to change a first impression would determine the success of any attempt to change an "unfavorable" impression.

Yes, but if you're someone like me, you really don't care.
I personally think a first impression shouldn't matter because the person shouldn't expect the other person to just show them what they're actually like on the inside.
It's hard to trust people with how you really are, so some times it's best not to care about a first impression.
But, to answer your question directly, yes, it is hard to change a first impression.
