Part time is usually under 40 hours...however, I have a friend who is classified as part-time (under a union contract) that works 40 hours because to be classified as full-time, one gets a guaranteed 40 hours per week and the office cannot guarantee it (plus the budget is different for part-time vs. full-time employees).
What state do you work in? Is there a union contract (memorandum of understanding)? Do you work for a private or government employer?
As long as you're paid for all the hours you work (and overtime for the time worked over 40 hours per week or over 80 hours per two weeks), then it is legal.

I don't know if it is legal or not, 40 hours is the mark for full time. So if you are part time you should have less than 40 hours in one week of work. since you have 50 hours legally you are full time getting paid part time.

It's legal in the US, although they have to pay you overtime pay at time and a half for hours over 40.
