I want a MONKEY as a pet!

Many states in the US, as well as many foreign countries, ban the private ownership of non-human primates (monkeys and their relatives). If you live in the US, check here to see if your state allows pet monkeys: http://www.api4animals.org/b4a2_exotic_animals_summary.php

If your state allows them, then you have to check with your county and your municipality. Many counties and municipalities ban or strictly regulate some animals, even if the state allows them to be kept as pets.

If you are legally allowed to have a monkey as a pet, then consider the conditions under which monkeys are acquired from the wild, the conditions under which they are kept, their total unsuitability for a life of confinement, and the diseases they can contract and spread to humans. That, in addition to the fact that you would have the equivalent of a 3 year old baby in diapers throwing temper tantrums, hitting, biting, flinging excretement and ocupying your every minute 24/7 for the next 25-50 years.

Read these websites to get a better idea of what you are talking about when you discuss "pet monkeys":

Check you state laws, there not illegal in every state. But are you willing to spend upwards of $5,000?? They can also live up to 25 years and have the mental capacity of a 3 year old. Are you ready to raise a toddler for the next 20 years?

Don't be selfish, in the end your only hurting the Monkey.

What kind of monkey? A chimp is like having a baby to take care of.
I had a friend who had a monkey, one of those smaller ones, and that thing was crazy. It would run all over the house, jumping from the lamp to the top of a door, to the top of a window treating the house like it was a track and field event. The whole time taking a dump whenever and wherever it wanted. The monkey's name was Guido and it was the first and last time I played with him.
I believe you have to get a permit to have one as well.

It does depend on where you live. You also should keep in mind that monkey's are expensive to take care of and are almost like having a baby to take care of. Also, I think there's certain types of monkeys that you could have as pets.

Monkeys are not good pets.

I've had a Capuchin. They are destructive and messy and expensive, especially for veterinary services.

You can't have a monkey as a pet legally in the US. They belong in the wild and often turn mean once in captivity. It sounds fun and all to have a monkey but, try a ferret. They are great!

omg! i had a squirrel monkey as a child when we lived in an apartment in ny. of course that was like forty years ago but the management demanded we get rid of it. the modern day potential monkey owner has to consider the town ordinances. does your town ALLOW you to have such an exotic pet? id check with that first (and the landlord too!) to avoid the heart break of someone wanting you to get rid of it or else you have to move

My dad's neighbor had a monkey once. He lived in Maryland at the time.

It depends on where you live.
In Los Angeles...no.
In Las Vegas...yes.

Beyond that, I do not know.

Cheers!
