I choose to shop at a grocery store that has someone to help carry the groceries to the car. Would it be appropriate during the Holiday Season to tip him/her?

No, it is not against any rules at my market. I give $2.00. Normally, I just give $1.00, but double-up at Holiday time.

Believe it or not, some stores prohibit employees who help customers, from accepting tips. I know of one place we older Americans dislike but I may get a violation for listing it.
My suggestion is to give the person a Christmas card, in a sealed envelope- containing the money, or have the address of the person on the envelope and present to them.
I have been told by managers of grocery stores before also, that employees are paid enough wages and not allowed to accept tips. I do not agree, however.

It is a very kind and generous gesture and against no rules. The people that bag and carry groceries often work for the tips only. At best it is minimum wage and the tip is the gravy on the potatoes.

Certainly Tip Them!!! You will make their day a special one. I always admire those baggers that offer to put my groceries into my vehicle with a smile on their faces. If they are nice about it, I always give them a little tip. Makes me feel good in knowing that I have made there day a better one.

Yes, for the sake of it... & even if it's not a holiday season, one should tip anyone who gives nice service esp with a smile.

I work at a grocery store, and our baggers are not supposed to accept tips, but I'm sure some do. And I'm sure they appreciate it.

I don't think that tipping is inappropriate at all. But at some stores they have very strict no tipping policies.

That never occurred to me, but I think it's a nice gesture, so go ahead and tip!
