And if so, how many minutes before the landing?

If you are coming in from the north, you can see the city with the harbour bridge and the opera house out of the windows on the left-hand side of the plane when it is on final descent. You will land two or three minutes later.

If the aeroplane is coming from the north but you are landing from the south, the plane will be off the coast as it makes its approach so the city will be seen from the right-hand side of the aircraft and you might see the opera house but from some distance. This would be five to ten minutes before landing.

If you have a chance to participate in a Tunick shoot, definitely do it! I am a male in his sixties and a life-long professional artist, and a retired school Principal, and I participated in the Tunick shoot in Cleveland. The photo shoot was a lot of fun and so were the participant parties at the Art Museum when the Tunick show was later displayed. And my picture is now hung in major museums around the world, (along with thousands of others in the photo... I am five people to the right of the fifth pole back on the left hand side in case you'd like to view me). And I made the Cleveland Television news. They interviewed me and asked "Was this pornography"" I said "Definitely not..Tunick is the opposite of porn. While pornography debases the human body, Tunick celebrates the human body. We had young and old, slim and fat, and men and women of every color. It was wonderful!" That was the statement they broadcast. My answer that did not get aired was when they asked was about the cold weather. Even though it was summer the breeze off Lake Erie at sunrise was only in the fifties. The announcerer asked "Did the cold bother you?" I answered "If had been any colder I would have been an inny!" The announcer and camera crew laughed, but expectedly that comment was cut from the evening news. I meet a pig inseminater from Georgia, and an author,, (we ended up dating for about a year and are still good friends) and an administrator of a major museum. We all meet again at the participants party at the museum of modern art 's Tunick showing later that year. There were more women there than men. Lots of professionals in the crowd. Do it for the fun. Don't take yourself too seriously. :)

Yes.
But it really depends on your flight path and which side of the plane you are sitting on.
If you can see the Sydney Harbour - any part of the Harbour, then you are alrady into landing mode.

If you have a window seat and you happen to be on the correct side of the plane you might see it for a while. I have been on four smaller planes in the past few weeks and got one window seat. If you are in a 747 the chances of you getting a window seat are very small.
