A whole lot of people need a boogeyman to blame all the country's problems on rather than attack the real causes. Israel has always been a convenient focus for this. And a lot of it is because Jews are perceived as being rich, which of course, some of them are and some of them aren't. There is an assumption that if you're rich, you had to do something bad to get there. So fearing Jews as a whole, their homeland makes an easy target.

It is not the Jewish population, it is that the country has been given special status by the US. It is that the US supports Israel no matter what the country does. It is as if the country itself has been put on a pedestal.
