Call the electric company for a FREE audit. They will come out and give you good tips on how to save. Also will give free light bulbs and wraps for your pipes and hot water tank. It's worth the call.

Just unplug anything you don't use all the time (Electricity vampires steal away electricity even when powered off), don't let your PC on 24/7 and keep the Fridge in the lowest setting which won't spoil your food, also keep your refrigeration full (even if it is milk gallons full of water) an empty fridge uses more electricity, use timers for items such as christmas trees etc.. Use automatic dusk/dawn timers for your porch lights, buy the new bulbs that are screw shaped, those last longer and burn far less power, buy energy saving appliances, put your water heater on vacation if you are going for a few days and while at home keep it in the lowest setting possible, Make sure your windows are not letting any cold air in, fix them if they do and if you are ina hot climate try turning down your ac two degrees or using a ceiling fan, a regular ceiling fan can lower body temperature by up to TEN degrees! Good luck!

Yeah definitely.
Me and my family have saved so much money by just keeping things off standby.
On electrical equipment, like Tv's, monitors and microwaves, you usually get the little red light.
It's a pain in the *** to keep plugging stuff in and out, but these little things make a huge difference.
And obviously if you're not in a room switch the light off, even if you're going out of it for just a minute or two.
When the bill comes at the end of the month it's a great feeling to see how much difference you've made!
Good luck! =]

Turn everything off you are not using. And yes, turn off the computer and monitor. Also unplug chargers while they are not being used- they eat power just sitting there.
Bigger things- keep your refrigerator full- even if it is empty milk jugs- every time the fridge opens, air escapes- but if you keep it full, it isnt as much loss.
Don't run your heat/air as much- get a fan for summer and some sweaters and quilts for winter.
Make sure there are no gaps in your windows and doors- use caulk to repair or use plastic to cover them in the winter ( see Home Depot.)
That is just a few ideas...

don't put things on stand-by
don't leave things on when you aren't using them
you could buy those bulbs that use less electricity...it might be a bit more expensive to buy than the normal ones but it will help in the long run...(i think they last longer too)
and yes, it does cost more to leave your computer on 24/7
