I am 20 weeks and 2 days pregnant with twins. A few days ago I thought I was leaking amnio fluid. I spent hours in the hospital, to find out it is my bladder. The doctor in the e.r. put me on bed rest, no sex, and no lifting. My regular doctor feels that because I am in my second trimester that I should be out of work and resting, not doing anything that may cause stress or bodily discomfort. My question is how does disability work? How long will I get it? If it runs out then what do I do? What are other options to help out with the money situaution? My husband makes decent money, but not enough to support us and to have extra money for baby things. I live in NY and work in a nursing home.

You have 18 weeks left to give those twins a safe entry into this world. SRS, social services and food stamps would surely help you, you need to ask though. As far as baby things. Email huggies for diaper coupons and samples and send away for samples of powder and all sorts of things to come to your house. In this city in Kansas we have a church sponsered thrift store and people donate the most wonderful baby clothes and all people's clothes and you can pick up items in great shape. Ask a local church if they can help you. Have faith and be possitive. If you have a local library, ask if they deliver books to your door like most libraries do for the elderly so that you can read as you wait for your future best friends to be born. When you see them for the first time you will thank me for giving you options so that you keep yourself and you little ones safe. What a wonderful Spring surprize. Do you need name suggestions?? Merry Christmas

Well, it IS irresponsible. Even should you did not pass with a conventional Dr there are midwives, even a steady Dr. might had been higher than not anything. Going to have an united states of americaisn't treatment. There are fundamental checks that you'll have had performed. Gestational Diabetes and so on. The track the center cost, experiment to ensure you do not need multiplied blood strain and a slew of alternative matters that you just no longer being a Dr. do NOT discover. The UK does NOT have the great wellness care on the earth and house births aren't riskless in any respect. Do discover you might have a prolapsed twine or the youngster might have pooped and swallowed meconium (which occurred to me and my being pregnant had certainly NO PROBLEMS and it STILL occurred. Or you might bleed to demise. You are completely SELFISH if you're simply doing this to avoid wasting a greenback. You are just about announcing on your unborn youngster you're no longer fundamental adequate to me to visit the Dr's. You strike a cord in me of the mummy that withheld her son's melanoma medicinal drugs. Shame on you and you'll have your children, inlcuding your unborn youngster taken from you.

I'm in Canada so I don't know how different it would be in NY....

but here for disability all you need is a statement from the doctor saying you need the time off.

We can either provide a detailed note, or he the doctor fill out the disability form.

Goto your HR department at work and they should have the form to give your doctor.

You will need a reason to be off work...I don't think 'pregnant' would do....you need a diagnosis...your doctor can help you with that

I'm not sure of the rules of your company, but where I work, being put on bed rest for pregnancy does count as short term disability. I checked my employee manual and it give you 60% of your salary while you are on disability for up to 12 weeks. You will need to check with your Human Resources Department.

I hope that all goes well and congratulations on your baby!

you won't get temporary disability for being pregnant. you could ask employer about putting you on layoff pay until you get back to work.
