I'm thinking of a marketing major for my undergrad degree. The thing is, I'm a Canadian permanent resident, but I'd much prefer going to the states for a business undergrad program. Is it worth going to prestigious schools in the states paying a higher tuition? Will the job I get after graduation pay more if I go to the states than if I, say go to University of Toronto in Canada? I'm thinking of NYU Stern, UC Berkeley, U Michigan, and U Penn.

AskBabbs doesn't even realize that Harvard doesn't offer an undergraduate program in business, but based upon your choices, you do seem to know that, since all of the schools you mention do have undergraduate degrees. There is no question that all of the schools you mention, if you could get into them, are far more prestigious even than the University of Toronto. The question is, what are you thinking of doing with your degree? If you plan to go to work for the rest of your career in insurance sales, or to come back to Canada and get a job at an ad agency, my guess is that the prestige of the degree won't much help you. If you want to work for a global management consulting firm, it may be essential. If you plan to go on to a prestigious graduate school, especially if you are thinking of going into academia and getting a Ph.D. in the long run, then the prestige of your degree really matters and you should definitely go for the best degree you can.

A degree from Harvard is worth it's weight in gold.....you can write your own ticket. Unless you are going there for your marketing major I wouldn't worry about it. Just pick a reasanably good school and do your very best.
Good luck to you.
